Terms of service

We like to set things out straight before we work together. It makes sure everyone knows where they are and that there are no misunderstandings about our service. If you’re thinking about booking some time you should read through this thoroughly.

Studio Time

The day price is based on eight hours of booked studio time. This begins at 10am, unless agreed otherwise. Extra time may be available, but this is entirely at the engineer’s discretion.

Shorter periods and any other services are charged at the hourly rate, with a minimum booking of two hours.

Payment and Booking

We require a 25% deposit to make a booking; the balance is to be paid before work starts. Payments are to be made in cleared funds.

When you book a shorter session we’ll agree on an estimate of the hours you’ll need and take a 25% deposit based on that. The balance of payment for hourly sessions is to be made at the end, when we know how long the session has actually taken. However it’s important to book the time that you need as extra time is subject to availabilty.
Deposits are non-refundable at our discretion, unless disaster strikes and we have to cancel your session. In this event you’ll be offered a refund of your deposit or a re-booking. We’ll certainly be very nice about it.

All payments must be in cleared funds: We do accept cheques(contact us to find out who to make them payable to), but we need seven working days to ensure these clear. This means your cheque must be with us seven working days before the payment is due; we wont accept cheques at the beginning of a session for example. We do not accept card payments at this time, but online payments via Paypal can be aranged which will allow credit card payments.

Archival Considerations

All tapestock remains the property of The Crash Factory unless tape is purchased prior to recording. If you wish, we agree to keep your material on our tapestock as short-term archival for a duration of 28 days from the last date of your session. This can be extended at a surcharge of £10 per month, payable in advance. However, we take no responsibility for accidental damage of tapestock or the recorded information. In any case, it’s far less likely to explode or disintegrate than a hard drive. If long-term archival is a concern we’re more than happy to discuss the options available and provide the best solution for you.

Other Points

If you wish to leave equipment with us for any period of time this needs to be agreed with us in advance. We can take no responsibility for items left at the studio. It is your responsibility to make sure any equipment that is left is packed away in a safe place at the end of your session. If you don’t someone will probably step on it, or in the very least use it to make their own record with.

The Crash Factory could be described as ‘cosy’. With multiple friends, managers, and hangers on, it can get a little crowded. Therefore, please let us know in advance if anyone who is not playing on the recording will be attending.
