Booking A Session

To make a booking at The Crash Factory, drop us an email or give us a call to talk about what you want and when you want to do it. We require a deposit of 25% of the session fee to make a booking, with the balance to be paid in cleared funds (please give cheques seven days to clear) by the time your session begins - deposits are refundable until seven days prior to your booking. Do bear in mind our weekends tend to get booked up much quicker than week days.

Recording

Our standard unit of service at The Crash Factory is a day. Take a look at our services page for more about what this means.

A day at The Crash Factory costs £160. Prices are completely inclusive: studio hire, engineer's fees, as much recording & mixing as will fit in the time, and a CD for everyone in your band.

Shorter sessions are charged at our hourly rate of £20, with a minimum booking of two hours. Drop us a line and tell us what you want to do, and we'll work out how long you might want to spend. This could be a great way to spread a normal studio day over a few evenings, as weekends tend to get booked up further in advance.

Mixing & Mastering

Mixing is something to figure in to your time. Mixing will normally be included in your session time, and it's usually best to spend as much time on it as you've spent recording. However, if your session runs over, or you just want to spend all of your time at the studio focused on recording, maybe Offline Mixing is for you.

A unique service offered by The Crash Factory is Offline Mixing. This is an unattended session, mixing your tracks according to any reference material you specify. "I want the drums to sound like this Metallica record, the acoustic guitar to sound like Norah Jones, and the bass to sound like Cream" is a viable request. "I want a kind of Libertines vocal sound" is a little harder, but only because we don't have a suitable heroin addict vocal processor.

Call us about a quote for your mixing project - obviously a prog-epic with 80 tracks of guitar is more work than mixing a guy with an acoustic guitar. We're sure to cut you a great deal on mixing because we love doing it, so drop us a line.

We also offer second-to-none mastering at prices that aren't stupid. Instead they're really sensible: £30 per track, which is as cheap as you'll find anywhere and a damn sight better sounding.

Live Recording

If you want your gig or your practise recorded then we're the guys to call. There are a couple of things to bear in mind. Live recording is charged at £250 per session. Now, a session basically means a night - we'll record any band that is playing on any given night, and don't charge extra to mix every band when we get the files back to the studio. This means it makes the whole lot cheaper if you get every band you're playing with involved, and when you consider that we'll be doing about two days work, it suddenly seems like a much much better deal, split between 4 or 5 bands!

We also need to get the go-ahead from the promoter of the night, and also the sound engineer, as well as working in a venue that has the right specifications (Nottingham venues like Junktion 7, Rock City, The Rescue Rooms are all good, as well as Sumo and The Charlotte in Leicester, The Vic Inn in Derby and Loughborough University).

If live recording is something you're interested in, drop us a line and we'll talk about your individual needs.
